What is Slim Fit Clothing?
Men and women all over the world want to be slim and a large percentage of the world’s population does fall in the slim category when body mass index measurements are considered, but most clothing is made for average size people who carry a little excess weight around the waist, buttocks, and hips.
Clothing manufacturers produce shirts, pants, suits, and jeans in large quantities and in order to keep costs in line they use a standard size scale that they believe will fit most people. The truth is a large number of people have a difficult time wearing off-the-rack clothing that is sized for the masses because body shapes and sizes are constantly changing due to a variety of genetic as well as social and economic factors.
The branded clothing designers now develop clothing using several different size scales in order to service the needs of different consumers. Slim fit clothing has become extremely popular not only because more bodies are leaner, but because fashion emphasize slimness in its marketing campaigns. It’s “in style” to be slim. Health and fitness centers around the globe are helping people get slim and stay that way, and clothing companies are producing more styles for people of all ages that have successfully reconfigured their body shape.
Slim clothing is any garment that fits close to the body. In other words there is no excess fabric hanging loosely anywhere on the body so the clothes not only look better, they feel better. Usually slim clothing has some sort of stretchy material added to the main fabric; spandex is usually added to cotton clothing, but there are other materials that can help keep the main fabric from looking baggy when slender men or women wear a pair of jeans, pants, or a slim cut shirt, blouse or a suit.
Skinny leg jeans and some wider legged styles are considered slim fitting clothes because they fit snugly at the waist and hips. The low-waist look falls into the slim fit clothing category because the waist fastens at the top of the hip which is below the natural waist-line and that gives the wearer a slimmer look.
Suits can be slim-cut by reducing the amount of material that’s used in the waist, as well as in the shoulder, chest, and back. Suit pant legs are cut narrower and the opening at the bottom is smaller. The issue with some slim fitting clothing is the fact that the buttonholes and seams may pull if the garments are not made properly and the garment may fit so tight that it restricts natural movement. Fashion is all about slim fit clothes, so brands spend an enormous amount of time developing new designs that compliment a slim body. Slim clothing is worn by the trim as well as the not so trim because fashion dictates what to wear and when to wear it.
It can be said that slim fit clothing is a timeless fashion statement that keeps changing as body shapes change.
